Mineral Makeup vs. Traditional Makeup

Mineral makeup is entirely more popular today compared to how it was 20 to 30 years ago.  It has become increasingly known in department stores, much seen in television and magazines.  But with all this hype about mineral makeup, how are they different from the conventional makeup that we have used before.

Under the Microscope

If we would be talking about the contents of the mineral and conventional makeup, under the microscope, there would not be much difference.  Mineral makeup would use titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, iron oxide, silk mica and hydrated silica.  These minerals are also, surprisingly,  present in traditional makeup.

What are the effects of these elements?

Titanium oxide is mainly a skin protector against harmful rays from the sun.   Zinc oxide works along with titanium dioxide in protecting the skin against the harmful ultraviolet rays.

Iron oxide are present in mineral foundations, they are originally in red, orange and yellow colors.  Meanwhile, silk mica and hydrated silica reduce the reaction of the minerals when they come in contact with the skin.  Some mineral makeup have vitamins and other minerals.  Whenever, you are using a new make-up, whether it is mineral or traditional, be conscious of its components.  There are instances that these compounds can provoke and allergic reaction when in contact with the skin.

But cases of women who experienced allergic reaction to mineral makeup is not as many as those who have allergies with traditional makeup.  There are also things missing in mineral makeup,  they are chemicals, preservatives, talc and other fillers.  These chemical components often trigger other people’s allergy.

Traditional powders tend to enhance the face’s wrinkles.  But with mineral makeup, the fine lines were removed, giving the face a healthy glow.  This health glow comes from the vitamins and antioxidants which hydrate the skin and would conceal the wrinkles naturally.

Above the surface

What’s good about mineral makeup is that it can be used on all the types of skin.  But even if it can be used on different skin types, it is still important to identify what colors are suitable and at the same time the right formulation.  But still, traditional makeup also serves that purpose.  You just have to be conscious with the makeup that you choose, since there can be additives bad for your skin.

Mineral makeup are often considered more “breathy” for the skin.  Traditional make-up tends to block or clog the pores.  That is why some customers have a feeling of  something heavy on their faces when they used the traditional makeup.  Since mineral makeup is natural, there is natural feel to it when it is applied to the skin.

Another good news for allergic people, is that it is hypoallergenic.  Mineral makeup do not have bismuth oxychloride in their component making your skin free form chemical allergic reactions.

There are some skin treatments which would not allow you to use cosmetics afterwards.  But with mineral makeup, the minerals serve as coolant to the skin and even encourage the skin to heal faster.  While some mineral makeup users find that they can even sleep through the night with their make-up on, since it gets to last longer than traditional makeup and at the same time, it’s less allergic.

There are some who chose to use mineral makeup since it is more cost effective.  Since, with mineral makeup you use less makeup with the same results.

Helpful tips to care for your skin

Skin is the outer most covering of your body, which need to be kept clean and nourished. If your skin is kept in good health, then you will be feeling more beautiful, fresh and young. Your skin needs to be pampered and taken care of. The skin is the part of the body, which is exposed constantly to various types of pollutants and harshness from the surroundings.

These pollutants harm the skin and the skin loses its youthfulness and glow. Here is some basic information about how to keep your skin healthy. You need to know your skin type before starting any skin care program. There are four basic skin types, normal, oily, dry and sensitive skin.

You need to wash your face to remove the dirt from it and to keep it clean. You should never wash your face with hot or cold water. Hot and cold water cause broken capillaries on the skin. Always wash your face with lukewarm water to remove the dirt and to open the clogged pores of your skin. You should wash your face as often as possible.

But never forget to wash it before going to bed and in the morning. You should never go to bed with makeup on. You should use a mild cleanser suitable to your skin type for cleansing your skin. The surfactants present in the cleanser remove the dirt, and the oil secreted by the sweat glands. You should apply the cleanser gently over the face in circular motion. Then wash the face with cool water.

You need to give your skin a dry exfoliation brush in the morning to remove the dead skin cells. Exfoliating your skin is very essential in order to make it bright and glowing. The purpose of exfoliating your skin is to remove the dead superficial skin cells and to make way for the new skin cells to appear. This will give you a youthful and glowing appearance.

The new cells also absorb moisture readily than the dead cells. Exfoliation also improves the blood circulation. You can use a soft natural bristle brush for dry exfoliation. If your skin is oily, then you need to exfoliate atleast 4-5 times a week. Those with dry sensitive skin can exfoliate once or twice per week. In order to keep your skin soft; you need to moisturize your skin. Moisturizers help to draw and seal moisture into the skin.

This will rejuvenate the skin cells and make the skin feel soft and glowing. You should not overdo it as it can also result in clogging of the pores. You should select a moisturizer, which suits your skin type. Moisturizers also help to protect your skin from sun damage. Moisturizers with sunscreen are available which can be used in the daytime to protect your skin from the harsh UV light.

You need to invigorate your skin by massaging them in slow circular motion. This will help to improve the circulation and will also prevent formation of wrinkles. In order to have a healthy glowing skin you need to rev up your digestion. Drink plenty of water and eat a balanced healthy food. Avoid oily and junk foodstuffs. In this way you can prevent constipation and other digestive problems which are the main cause for skin ailments like acne, pimples etc.

Harm In Using Skin Care Products

Gone are the days when women need to find leaves, tree barks, and other natural ingredients so they can use them as skin enhancers and beauty supplements. Today, various skincare treatments and products are widely available in stores, markets, spas, salons, and other beauty establishments. With these products and treatments, it is then easier for women to achieve and maintain a smooth and beautiful skin.

However, not all skincare products are safe and effective. Some of these products may contain ingredients that are harmful to the skin. Instead of making the skin look healthier and younger, products that contain certain damaging ingredients may even make skin conditions worse.

Efficiency of beauty and skincare products are also not the same to all users. Hence, certain treatments and products may either work or not work to some users. This only means that consumers, most especially the women, need to be careful when choosing skin care products.

The following are four common ingredients found in skincare products and their negative side-effects on the skin:

   1. Artificial colorings
Moisturizing products that contain artificial colorings pose harmful effects to the body. Artificial colorings may cause cancer when regularly applied on the skin. Aside from being carcinogenic, some coal-tar colored skincare products also contain metal impurities such as lead and arsenic.

These facts on artificial colorings in moisturizing skin care products should be carefully considered by consumers. Remember that the skin is constantly exposed to such artificial colorings since regular application of moisturizer on the skin is a common regimen of most people.

   2. Untested skincare products
Almost all manufacturers of cosmetic and skincare products have the means to use any raw material as ingredients for their products even without the permission of agencies in charge of regulating cosmetics and beauty products. Since manufacturers have control over product testing, they can distribute and market skincare and cosmetic products to worldwide markets that may possibly contain ingredients that are harmful to health.

With this, consumers should keep in mind such alarming fact on skin care products that contain harmful ingredients. Remember that the skin absorbs the ingredients of the skin products when applied on the skin. Hence, harmful ingredients like carcinogens are absorbed by the skin, causing irritation and blister.

   3. Fragrance
Fragrance is also one of the common ingredients found in untested skincare and cosmetic products. Such ingredient can cause reproductive complication, liver damage, and birth defects in laboratory animals. When applied on the skin, fragrance can cause allergic reactions. As such, experts recommend the use of fragrance-free skincare products to avoid allergies and irritation.

   4. Sunscreen
Most people think that skincare products containing SPF are best protection of the skin for the harmful rays of the sun. What they don’t know is that some sunscreens have adverse side effects to the body. Yes, SPF chemicals protect the skin from the surface. But once absorbed, these may bring damaging effects to the body.

   5. Glycols
Glycols are derived from hydrocarbons. These are among the ingredients commonly found in moisturizers and are used as cosmetics solvents. Over-exposure to glycol can lead to serious complications in a woman’s reproductive system and contact dermatitis.

Not all anti-aging products and treatments have the same effect on all women of all ages after all. It is therefore always advised to check what you are using. Not being careful enough might end you up sporting more of those lines and wrinkles.

In addition to being mindful of what anti-aging treatment or product you should use on your skin, remember that treating or preventing those lines and wrinkles start from within yourself. It means your lifestyle. What you eat, drink, intake, or what sleeping behavior you have do reflect on your skin. If you do it in a healthy manner, it will show on your skin. However, if you are careless, you will notice that lines and wrinkles appear quickly than those who have a good, healthy daily lifestyle.

If you have been living a not so quite good lifestyle, the following three quick tips shall give you a good start into living a lifestyle that promotes healthy skin and inner being.

1.) Eat lots of green, leafy vegetables. These have the main nutrients that can remove years off your physical appearance and skin. Green vegetables are considered to be a great anti-aging food to prevent those lines and wrinkles from appearing too soon. Specifically, spinach, broccoli, lettuce, and any other green vegetables are perfect to keep your skin young and healthy.

2.) Cut out most sugar and salt from what you are eating. Sugar and salty foods contain elements which can easily give more years to your appearance. When doing a grocery, always check the labels. Avoid those that contain high amounts of sodium content, as well as fructose and high corn syrups.

3.) And finally, eat most of vegetables raw. When you don't heat and cook your vegetables, you are preserving all the anti-aging nutrients and ingredients therefore these will go directly to your body and reverse damage effects of aging more properly. Cooking or heating these vegetables can still retain some of the nutrients; however these are broken down so that what you consume is less than the amount of the natural ingredients.

If you haven't started it, now is the time to do it. A change to your eating lifestyle can give you a long way towards achieving the vitality and youthful glow while slowly reversing the process of aging process.

Anti-Aging Treatment – Lifestyle Change

One of the most highly regarded anti-aging treatments is still exercising. Not only does it restore health, regain a youthful muscle tone, improves the metabolism of the body, exercising could also extend life expectancy. It is so important that no anti-aging supplement, no surgery and no single health food no matter the hype in advertisement could replace it.

One could only turn on the television set and at least two channels in any cable company are shopping networks that sells exercise equipments and gadgets, all modified to make exercising easier and less time consuming. All directed to make people exercise and to accommodate also the issues confronting older people.

Understandably so, as the body ages, it desires more rest from activities that require less physical effort. On the other hand, this is the time when it needs it more.

Aging and Metabolism – Most people think that as they age, their metabolism slows down too. In many respects this is true that is why the need for exercise is greater. Often though, the reason for slower metabolism for older people is that they stop moving as much compared to when they were younger. Not moving so much also tends to make even the voluntary muscles in the body slower.

Plaques develop especially in the colon and when the junk and the gunk stay there caused by slower metabolism, ailments develop faster. The body also develops more fat than muscles as it ages which is the more reason to burn more calories. Younger people have more lean muscles. This is why they do not sweat as much with every exertion than older people do.

Aging and keeping an active mind – There is a correlation between being physically and mentally active. A person, especially older people, who leads sedentary lifestyle tends to have more lethargic cognitive abilities than same age groups that remained physically active.

Aging and injuries - As people reach middle age, recovery from injuries takes a while longer. So it is true that as people starts to approach middle age, they may want to limit the frequency of exerting strenuous physical activity. Still exercising is needed albeit they have to take longer periods of rests.

Exercising and deaths – As people approach middle age the fear of falling dead during physical exertion and other horror stories becomes more believable. False belief. Actually the chance is one in 1.5 million sessions and the findings are not very conclusive. However, it will still be good to consult a physician first for better guidance. But then even the physician will recommend exercising provided there are no seriously prohibitive reasons.

Aging and Strength training - Strength training and weight training could slow down the loss of lean body mass in older persons. Depending also on a person's initial fitness and dependent on how hard he works out, lean body mass could be developed.

Aging and Strength development – A good anti-aging treatment for aging people is the regaining or the development of strength first. People approaching middle age who started walking a certain distance a day finds out that they could endure more distances on following days and the distances keeps on increasing. Development of the strength in this manner prepares the person for more serious work outs.

In fact strength development does not need high tech equipments, the road, the stairs, and the door jamb, whatever. Provided your physician gives the go, exercise materials could be found anywhere. Besides, strength development is necessary if one plans to do aerobics later on.

Anti-aging treatments like exercising could be done anywhere and are available anywhere. Often they do not require too much effort nor do they have to be too time consuming. Sometimes, the simplest are even the most effective. Exercising also remains to be the least expensive anti aging treatment ever. All other alternatives do not make the grade as much as exercise does.
