Anti-Aging Treatment – Anti-Oxidants

It has long been accepted and practiced that eating food with lots of anti oxidants slows down aging. This has been practiced even before the term anti-oxidants were used.

Ancient Chinese (and even the Chinese of today) prescribes special food that will enhance an attribute, cure an ailment and improve metabolism or increase vitality and vigor. In India, certain herbs are mixed with their foods that are similar to the results that Chinese sought. The same goes with Brazilians and Peruvians.

While almost all plants have sterols that are good for the metabolism in the body, foods that are generally known to contain high concentration of antioxidants are usually those that are present in plants and other fruits containing amino acids, omega 3,6, and 9, and other useful fatty acids. The category also includes those that contain high concentrations of resveratrol and glutathione. The presence of antioxidants in diets will help protect the cells of the body from free radicals and toxins.

This is so because anti oxidants work in a way that its molecules slow down and in some conditions, prevent the oxidation of other molecules. Anti-aging treatment preparations that contain anti oxidants often come in the form of capsules, tablets and energy drinks and other forms of dietary supplements.

Oxidation, while crucial at maintaining life, could be damaging. Animals and even plants maintain a high level and complex anti-oxidant systems in multiple types. Many of these types come from plants in the form of sterols and enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, catalase and other peroxides. The most common and readily available antioxidant though is the Vitamin C and the Vitamin E.

One of the tangible reasons that a person lacks antioxidants in the body is tiredness and stress. A body that lacks anti oxidants results to oxidative stress which damages and kills cells. Aside from anti oxidants being effective as anti-aging agents is its capacity to prevent a host of illnesses from occurring. Some types of anti-oxidants have demonstrated capacity to prevent the development of certain cancer cells, diabetes, heart ailments and other maladies. This is one of the reasons that foods that are high in anti-oxidant properties are highly sought after. Others are even in such a demand to command high prices.

Examples of foods that have vast concentration of antioxidant properties are coffee, grapes and berries. In fact the grapes in red wine have been known to have impressive anti-oxidizing properties that are usually attributed to the cause of the French being more fit in spite of the cholesterol rich food that they consume although the skin of the grape is the part that is truly rich in anti oxidants.

Coffee has vast concentration too although what is mixed with the coffee is what causes the worry. The acai berry of Brazil is also widely advertised to have vast concentration of anti oxidant properties, pity that it is not consumed fresh in the rest of the world except Brazil.

In addition to its ability to repair and preserve cells making it an excellent anti aging agent, anti oxidants are also widely used as preservatives in food and cosmetics. Anti oxidants are also widely used in industrial applications where prevention of degradation is important.

Indoor Tanning Tips And Trends

The process where skin pigmentation is darkened due to exposure to the ultraviolet light rays is known as "Tanning". The tanning process of skin is generally of two types. One is immediate tanning and the other is delayed tanning. The immediate tanning is caused by the Ultraviolet A (UVA) radiation of sunlight which appears just a short time after the sunbathing and usually lasts only a few hours or days.

The delayed tanning is the response to the Ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation of sunlight and usually appears 2-3 days after the sunbathing and lasts longer with the natural renewal of skin. The intensity of the tanning varies as it depends upon the type of skin.

Indoor Tanning Process and Devices

Indoor tanning has become very popular and just like regular tanning should include indoor tanning lotion. A clamshell like tanning bed is used as the tanning salon equipment in most of the tanning bed salons. Customers have to lie down on a plexiglass surface where the tanning bed lamps from above and below reach the customers body. The latest high tech tanning beds are called stand up tanning beds and don't require a person to lay down on plexiglass.

Most of the older tanning devices used the light sources that emitted short wave Ultraviolet B rays. These UVB radiation actually caused a burning sensation, hence the need for tanning bed lotions. The salon owners began using the tanning beds that emit mostly long wave Ultraviolet A rays from the light sources as the UVB radiation has many harmful effects. The UVA rays cause less burning than the UVB rays.

The harmful side effects of Tanning

The indoor tanning is very much responsible for the damages of our skin because of the emitting of ultraviolet rays. When the skin produces an additional pigment to protect against burning from ultraviolet rays at that time the tanning occurs. Eye injury, skin rashes and even skin cancer might develop due to the overexposure to the UV rays.

The ultra violet radiations from the sun and tanning bed lamps are most widely known to be responsible for skin cancer. UV rays have been known to even damage the immune system causing premature aging or wrinkling of the skin.

Now a day’s public health experts and medical teams are warning people from the dangers of the ultraviolet rays of the sun and tanning bed lamps. The UVB ray is associated with sunburn and is considered a deeper penetrating ray. According to some scientists there may be an association between the UVA radiation and the malignant melanoma which is a very serious type of skin cancer of which case a health care provider may be needed.

Indoor tanning lotion sales have been skyrocketing but with continual warnings from government health officials we could begin to see a trend to the more natural skin color look. The advancement of tanning bed lotions and tanning salon equipment in recent years has made indoor tanning a regular activity for many. You might want to consider the long term effects compared to the short term gains before attempting continual tanning for yourself.

Many people use indoor tanning to better prepare their body for a vacation to a favorite hot spot. This is actually quite smart as it better prepares your body for the increased exposure and can avoid a sun burn that may ruin a perfectly good holiday.

Do Not Let The Galaxy Of Acne Products In The Market To Stun You!

Remember, every standard acne product has a handout, explaining the salient features of the product, its ingredients and above all, a warning. No acne product is meant to cause intentional harm to anyone.

Every product in the market claims a set standard of excellence. When the market is flooded with many such products, the buyer, rather the actual person undergoing the suffering of acne, has a double responsibility. Firstly, to buy the correct product and secondly, to apply it as per the directions.

If the rules regarding the later are not adhered to properly, please note that the manufacturer has carefully worded many escape clauses for his own legal and financial safety. For, he has to protect himself first. Your protection from acne, is his secondary priority, strictly speaking. This is, however, not to doubt his intentions.

Individual constitution is a new concept for the modern mind, and acne is no exception,
The exact cause and the possible solution, will have to be well thought off by an individual, after studying the subject acne. No doubt, medication is an important part of the healing process, but most of the mistakes are committed here, if you follow them without knowing the root cause of acne. For example, wearing tight clothes is known to cause body acne by trapping sweat. In such conditions, if you take antibiotics, the result is bound to be unfavorable. It may even lead to side-effects.

The galaxy of acne products in the market may stun you. Skin exfoliation products, soaps, lotions, gels, creams and much more are readily available. Supplementation is a tricky business and is best done with professional help. It should never be considered a substitute for sound diet, environmental awareness and stress management.

Do not consider every type of acne a disease as such. It may just be a temporary condition of the skin, an irritation with a definite, fixed cycle. Let it come and go and die its natural death. Do not fear or interfere in its working.

The totality of the circumstances contributing to acne, are not known and will perhaps never be known. The environmental conditions vary and the same individual may react differently in different seasons. So it is always advisable to gain a dermatologist’s advice well before trying on to any of the acne products.

Cystic Acne Treatment - The Whole Truth

Cystic acne break-outs can be painful and lead to deep scarring. Some dermatologists consider it to be the most severe kind because topical medications do not get to the root of the problem. It heals extremely slowly because it is so deep that the infection is trapped under the skin. Cystic acne treatment is usually limited to oral medication so all cases should be taken to a dermatologist.

Isotretinoin is the most common, and most potent drug prescribed for cystic acne treatment. It is a man-made form of retinoid (Vitamin A) that is taken in pill form. It is the only prescription that treats excess oil production, clogged skin pores, and inflammation. This pill is taken up to 20 weeks and commonly does not require more than one course of therapy to cure.

The most serious side-effect to taking this medication is the possibility of birth defects to a developing fetus. For this reason, women are required to not be pregnant or get pregnant at any time during this treatment. Regular check-ups are scheduled for each patient using this medication to monitor any additional side effects.

Common side effects of using isotretinoin as a cystic acne treatment include: muscle aches, uncomfortable drying of the lips and eyes, depression, and chest pain. Some of these side effects can cause serious health problems in the future. Always contact your doctor if you notice any of these side effects.

Oral contraceptives are used as cystic acne treatment in females. It suppresses overactive sebaceous (oil producing) glands, and is safe to be used long-term. In addition to an oral contraceptive, the doctor may prescribe a synthetic steroid to inhibit other hormones that stimulate the sebaceous glands.

If oral cystic acne treatment does not work, they may require drainage. This is considered acne surgery and should only be performed by a professional, in a sterile environment. If you attempt to squeeze or pick them yourself, the infection may last much longer than it would have. You may cause the infection to worsen and increase the inflammation and swelling.

For dramatically inflamed cysts, a dermatologist may decide to administer an injection with a highly-diluted corticosteroid to bring down the inflammation and increase the speed of healing. It is a generally painless procedure. It usually clears the cyst within a week and prevents rupturing and scarring. However, this is not the first choice of cystic acne treatment by most dermatologist because it only treats current acne.

In addition to the medications your dermatologist prescribes to you, be responsible for the health of your skin. Wash your face at least once a day, especially following exercise or other sweat-inducing activity. Do not wash your skin too often or it could result in drying out.

Bursting of cystic acne will most likely result in scars, so avoid this at all costs. Make sure your hands and fingers stay away from your face. Your hands pick up dirt and germs with everything you touch and this coming in contact with your face can increase the chance of infection.

Skin Care Made Easy

The skin is the largest organ in the human body. The skin constantly protects the human body from infections and other sickness. Yet at the same time, the skin is the most vulnerable organ in the body because it is exposed to pollution like cigarette smoke, specifically to the carbon monoxide emitted by cars.

The skin may also be exposed to the sun's ultraviolet rays. In the long run, these factors may lead to skin degeneration and the clogging of pores. In addition to these factors, environmental poisons like toxins and chemicals may set off chemical reactions that produce free radicals.

Free radicals are unstable oxygen molecules that may damage skin membranes, proteins, and DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). These harmful molecules are primary reasons of deterioration of the skin cells. Because of these threats to the skin, skin care has become a major health issue nowadays.

Other factors that may contribute to poor skin conditions may include the following:

Antibiotics and alcohol lead the way in reducing good bacteria in the digestive tract. The liver and most of the immune system is in the digestive tract;
Poor diet, or faulty digestion restricts the absorption of nutrients that are important to skin's health;

Sluggish liver cannot store skin-nourishing vitamins such as Vitamin A;
Smoking subtracts years from your health and makes the skin lose vitality and color; and
Lack of exercise reduces blood circulation. This means that fewer nutrients and oxygen make it to the skin.

Taking care of the skin does not have to be expensive and complicated, simple adjustments in one's lifestyle may spell the difference between healthy and impaired skin. One simple way of taking care of one's skin is to keep it clean, especially the hands because the hands can spread germs and bacteria to the skin and other parts of the body.

Individuals with dry and flaky skin can use moisturizing soap, lotion, cream, and other skin care products. The use of gentle skin care products are encouraged by many health professionals. To lessen the development of pimples, non-comedogenic (won't cause pimples) products should be used.

In addition to proper hygiene, a proper diet should be followed in order to maintain healthy skin. It is important one's appearance is directly related to what people eat or drink. A balanced diet composed of carbohydrates, protein, fats, essential fatty acids, and necessary vitamins and minerals is essential in maintaining the health of the skin.

Fruits and vegetables are also important for skin care because they contain plenty of antioxidants. Antioxidants are molecules that may help protect skin cells from damages that might be brought by free radicals especially the ones that are caused by environmental exposure.

Drinking enough water throughout the day may guarantee proper hydration of the body and help reduce skin dryness. However, it is advised to drink the right amounts of water because too much or too little may bring unwanted effects. Ask health professionals to know more about proper diet and hydration.

Skin care these days is an essential part of a healthy regimen because of the abundance of environmental pollution, global warming, and the thinning of the ozone layer. Without taking care of the skin, individuals may heighten the risks of developing skin ailments like psoriasis, skin cancer, and other skin conditions. Understanding proper diets, hygiene, and hydration are essential in maintaining healthy skin.

Skin Care Treatment In Your Refridgerator

When it comes to skin treatment, there are few things more satisfyingly exquisite than a pampering facial. A facial mask can help you relax and rejuvenate at the end of the day, or can mark the transition from a stressful week of work to a weekend full of fun.

However, a facial skin treatment at an upscale spa can cost upwards of a hundred dollars, and being worried about the impact on your wallet can take the relaxation right out of a facial. Luckily, it is possible to whip up your own moisturizing facial mask at home with ingredients that you probably have in your kitchen right now.

Making your own skin treatment at home can help you get the feeling of upscale luxury without paying top dollar.

The easiest and perhaps most classic skin treatment involves a single, skin nourishing ingredient: pure honey. To open your pores, drape a warm washcloth over your face for about thirty seconds; then apply a thin layer of honey over the surface of your cheeks, chin, forehead, and any other places that could benefit from an additional infusion of revitalizing moisture.

Lie down and relax for ten to fifteen minutes while the honey penetrates your skin and replenishes it with moisture; then gently wipe the honey away with lukewarm water and a washcloth. Splash your face with cool water to snap your pores shut, then pat your face dry gently to seal in the moisture. This simple skin treatment lets you put your best face forward, and can help you give an average day a very special feeling.

Oatmeal makes for another simple skin treatment that is ideal for problem skin. If you suffer from breakouts or sometimes have trouble controlling an oily shine, an oatmeal mask can help pull the excess oil from your face without drying out your skin. This mask will gives you with a healthy, matte complexion that is sure to leave you smiling.

Simply mix a bit of water into pure rolled oats to create a thick, moist paste. To open your pores before applying the mask, fill a bowl with hot water and lean over it face first, with a towel draped over the back of your head to create a kind of steam tent. For an extra luxurious scent, add a tablespoon of your favorite herb, like peppermint or rosemary, to the water.

Breathe deeply for five to ten minutes, allowing the steam to penetrate the surface of your face. Then, wipe away the moisture on your face with your towel and, using your fingertips, gently apply a thin layer of the oatmeal paste all over your face. Wait for the oatmeal to dry and harden, a process that usually takes between ten and fifteen minutes; then wipe it away with a damp, lukewarm washcloth. Pat your face dry, and enjoy the results of your exquisite homemade skin treatment.
